The Chicago Bears are one of two NFL teams this preseason to go winless, with the other being the Indianapolis Colts.

Unfortunately for the Monsters of the Midway, Peyton Manning isn’t lining up under center.

With the practice games out of the way, the Bears’ real test comes with its Sept. 12 date against the Detroit Lions on Opening Day. However, it seems as if the Bears have more issues now than they did when camp opened up. (more…)

The Chicago Bears cut Jay Cutler’s debut under Mike Martz’s regime short because of San Diego Chargers’ maddening blitz scheme.

No, really. The Trib tries to explain it all.

Mike Martz admits the Bears gave the hook early to quarterback Jay Cutler last Saturday in San Diego because they were concerned about the blitzes that former Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera was dialing up.

Cutler was removed after the first offensive possession of the game — an eight-play drive that led to a field goal. The Chargers blitzed on four of the first five plays and six of the eight.

Apparently, the Bears were only interested in playing the Chargers under the condition that quarterback sacks were registered only when a flag was pulled from the quarterback’s waist.

And that’s only the beginning of the story. (more…)

Mike Martz Is Some Kind Of Crazy, Believes WRs Will Be Strength

Sports - July 30, 2007

Mike Martz is known around the NFL as an evil genius in regard to concocting successful offensive schemes.

With that said, you have to be some sort of crazy to believe that the Chicago Bears’ group of wide receivers will be the team’s strength in the upcoming season.

Will the Bears’ running game be that much improved in 2010 with addition of Chester Taylor?  I’ve got $12.5 million reasons it better be.

Will Chicago’s passing attack show signs of life with a playbook that includes routes that are drawn to go beyond the first down marker?  Surely, it can’t get worse.

I guess with that being taken into consideration, the Bears pass catchers should be better.

But a guarantee?

Really?

A Love/Hate Relationship With Bears Draft Choices

Chicago Bears Introduce Jay Cutler

There aren’t many losers when it comes to the NFL Draft.

Every year, fans of teams hold out hope that their front office leadership’s offseason of trips to sunny Florida, Texas and Hawaii produce talented players that can take their respective team to the next level.

And then there is the Chicago Bears. (more…)

Bears Befuddle Fans, Release Alex Brown

Detroit Lions v Chicago Bears

If Chicago sports fans had their way, Alex Brown would be lining up opposite of Julius Peppers, giving the Bears one of the best defensive end tandems in the National Football League.

Then again, if Chicago sports fans ran the world, people would bow at a platinum statue of Mark DeRosa and worship Caleb Hanie as if he had cured the plague.

But for once, the common Chicago sports fan might have it right in being upset that the Bears released Brown, who was the team’s best defensive lineman.

It must be hard for a franchise to claim this as a money-related move, especially after making it rain big bills on Peppers to start the offseason.  Then again, it’s the Bears.  The only thing difficult for this front office if fielding a team that wins.

In fact, I’m very bothered with the way the process played out for good ol’ No. 96. (more…)
